While closing in to the release date of Splatoon 3: Side Order, Fresh Season 2024 is also fast approching. Direct your opponents to their spawn on Marlin Airport with the new Douser Dualies FF, Recycled Brella 24 Mk I or new alternate sets for existing weapons. Fight Salmonids on Bonerattle Arena and celebrate Splatfest with a bang thanks to the new Fizzbang feature. What else may await us? Mark your calendars, because there is only one week between Side Order release and the start of Fresh Season 2024!

24 January 2024

It's been a big day of news in the world of Splatoon! Headlining is, of course, the news that Wave 2 of the Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass, Side Order, is going to be released on 22 February 2024! The release date was shown at the end of a new trailer, along with artwork showing some mysterious new characters!

In other news, version 6.1.0 of Splatoon 3 lands tomorrow, 25 January 2024, and brings with it the usual mid-season balance patches plus the long-awaited Mincemeat Metalworks revamp. If that makes you want to dance, then you won't have long to wait, as the Deep Cut live concert scheduled for the now-cancelled Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo will be released for free on YouTube on 10 February 2024!

Finally, in a sad but inevitable update, Nintendo has confirmed that online play on the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U will shut down on 9 April 2024. Let's all use this time to send off the original Splatoon online in style!

17 November 2023

The eagerly-awaited Deep Cut amiibo have finally released alongside version 5.2.0! Just in time for this month's Splatfest, too! Be sure to pick 'em up to show off your favorite member's gear, or take photos with them anywhere in Photo Mode. — we know who we're gonna pose with. Don't forget to take advantage of the increased Closeout Bonus at the end of the season as well!

15 September 2023

Have you recovered yet? In case you missed it (and how could you?), yesterday's Nintendo Direct finally lifted the lid on Side Order, the exciting single-player DLC mode from Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass! Now with a fresh new release window of Spring 2024, we've been re-introduced to Agent 8, Pearl, and Inkopolis Square, and discovered mysterious new enemies in the Spire of Order with seemingly roguelike gameplay elements. We're still breaking down all the hidden details and can't wait to find out more!

17 August 2023

Another quarter, another season, and this one is not to be mist! Drizzle Season 2023 has just been announced and brings with it a plethora of new features on 1 September 2023, including the new Dread Wringer and Heavy Edit Splatling weapon types and several new and returning variants, the new Crableg Capital and Shipshape Cargo Co. stages with the return of Salmonid Smokeyard, new music from H2Whoa, gear adjustments, Tableturf Battle cards, new Challenges... we could go on and on.

Of course, all this lands just in time for the first anniversary of Splatoon 3 on 9 September 2023, and we're ready to celebrate! A special birthday Splatfest kicks off on the day itself, and it's a battle of the idols: Shiver vs. Frye vs. Big Man! As if all that wasn't enough, we're also getting a Big Run on 2 September 2023 and Deep Cut amiibo on 17 November 2023 - phew!

We'll likely continue to get fresh updates on all these events and updates in the weeks to come!

3 August 2023

After five months of maintenance, Splatoon's online play resumes. Turn on your Wii U for a belated celebration of Splatoon's 8th anniversary. Get your friends and enjoy the nostalgia trip while turfing on Splatoon's exclusive stages, stroll around Inkopolis Plaza and the shops in Booyah Base to see how much has changed, yet is still the same.

16 May 2023

Staying fresh is so last month - it's time to say it with sizzle, as Sizzle Season 2023 is on its way! Launching on 1 June 2023, we so far know that this new heaping of content will include brand-new weapon types (the S-BLAST '92 and Painbrush), new stages (Barnacle & Dime for battles and Jammin' Salmon Junction for Salmon Run), new music (from the excellently-named Yoko & the Gold Bazookas), plus new gear and Tableturf Battle cards and loads of returning favorites to boot! Not to mention the brand-new Challenge mode that's sure to shake up online play!

More information will no doubt be revealed very soon, so look forward to it!

23 March 2023

It seems just yesterday we were enjoying the Dark Chocolate vs. Milk Chocolate vs. White Chocolate Splatfest... Yet, here we are, ready to splat again! This one's theme is Nessie vs. Aliens vs. Bigfoot! With this question in mind, what kind of believer are you? Another exciting factor is that with the purchase of Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass, you can enjoy the Splatfest with a Squid Sisters performance!

...Which brings us to another subject. If you are dwelling in Inkopolis at the time of this Splatfest, you will hear one of two songs. During the first half, you will hear a remix of the old favorite City of Color. But after the halftime report, you will hear a new song playing: Tomorrow's Nostalgia Today!

Whatever team you chose, have fun and stay fresh!

20 March 2023

After our 3 months of Chill Season 2022, we are greeted with another one! Fresh Season 2023 includes two new special weapons (yes, the Kraken has awoken, now the Kraken Royale!) and two new maps, a new one, Um'ami Ruins, and a Splatoon 2 favorite, the Manta Maria! Also, with this update, players can now visit our hometown Inkopolis with the purchase of the Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass! Not only that, but fashion is getting an update with the new brand Z+F! Plus, a new catalog and more, as we await this summer's season, Sizzle Season 2023...

10 February 2023

In case you missed it, the Nintendo Direct from the other day unexpectedly announced Splatoon 3's DLC, in the form of Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass! This double-helping of goodies includes a return to Inkopolis Plaza in the spring, and a very mysterious new single-player campaign called Side Order launching this year or next... What could it be? We have no idea!

Our pages for these new discoveries are now up, and don't forget that news on Fresh Season 2023 should be right around the corner too!

Introducing Edit-by-Pigeon!

A NIWA Service

For years, editors have been restricted to contributing to their favorite NIWA wikis via the internet, tarnished by poor connections, clunky keyboards, and weary arguments. Through a grand collaboration, NIWA members have created a brand new service that allows anyone to submit their edits via pigeon post.

Steps:

  1. Print out a copy of the article you would like to edit.
  2. Mark the copy with your edits in red ink.
  3. Request a carrier pigeon from the wiki you are editing.
  4. In 2 to 30 days, the pigeon should arrive at your home to pick up your modified article.

Our dedicated pigeons will carry your articles over to the respective wiki's staff team, who will take care to carefully transcribe your edits onto the wiki. Please note that if the article in question has been edited since your submission, your edits will be rejected and you will have to repeat the process from Step 1.

Meet the Team

Very few species were able to survive the climate catastrophe that led to the Inkopolis we know today, and the vast majority of those needed to irreversibly adapt to survive. Not so for the pigeons. These brawny little birds are not only able to survive a mass extinction event with no known ill effects, but they are also agile and quick-thinking enough to never once get inked in the midst of battle. Clearly, these traits make them the perfect contenders for the postal industry. Inklings and Octolings may think they rule the roost, but Inkopolis really belongs to the pigeons.

To meet the rest of the team, follow this link.
